The chevy Volt is General Motor’s first hybrid mid-size electric car, first introduced in early 2009. The car is available as a 5-door liftback as well as a hatchback. Engine, Design and Safety features: The most significant feature of the car is, obviously its electrical engine. The first 40 miles of travel is powered by the electrical energy generated by large rechargeable A/C lithium ion batteries. For longer distances, a gasoline engine has been incorporated to kick in and work as an electric generator for up to 400 miles.
The car is designed beautifully with closed grills, outside view mirrors and rear roof spoiler. It is also equipped with advanced features such as trip computer, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth connection, OnStar services, a rear-view camera, a back-up camera and CD stereo with a video display, a built-in Hard drive and USB port. There are two LCD displays-one behind the steering wheel and the other at the top of the center stack. Though a 4-seater, there is trunk space for cargo. The electric car promises a quiet and smooth drive. The safety features include 4-wheel ABS, engine immobiliser, traction and stability control, airbags, child safety locks, child seat anchors and a remote anti-theft alarm system.
